The statue was unveiled on Sunday the 25th of March, and was paid for by a crowdfunding campaign which raised over £100,000. Within 48 hours of the unveiling, the statue was vandalised.
Despite the fact that the statue was paid for by crowdfunding and not the local council, the graffiti read “Feed the homeless first”.
Aylesbury’s Deputy Mayor Mark Willis commented on the vandalism, saying “I want to point out that this statue received precisely £0 of public money. That’s right, £0. It was funded entirely through crowdfunding, by members of the public, myself included.”
Music promoter David Stopps, who led the crowdfunding campaign commented:
BBC shared a video of CCTV that captured the vandal in action.
